Harry Beeby

Honorary President
Harry Beeby

Harry Beeby is the Honorary President of Goffs UK following an illustrious career with the Company where he was DBS Managing Director until 1998 and Chairman until September 2016. He fully retired in March 2018 but takes a keen interest in each sale as a spectator.

Harry is the son of renowned dual purpose trainer George Beeby, who has the enviable record of training two Cheltenham Gold Cup Winners, and is the grandson of his namesake Harry Beeby, the largest horse dealer in the UK in the 1920’s and 1930’s. After a brief spell as an assistant to his father, he joined Healey and Baker, the leading London Estate Agents, to obtain business experience. He was then recruited by founder members of Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (DBS), which was renamed Goffs UK in April 2016, Willie Stephenson and Ken Oliver as a partner in 1964 and began auctioneering later that year. He remained on the rostrum for 49 years and was also a guest auctioneer at Goffs in Ireland for three years in the 1980s and has sold in Hong Kong, Italy, Cyprus, Sweden and at many charity auction events.

When Harry first started at DBS the firm held just three sales a year and he was instrumental in the growth of the company which included the introduction of the Breeze-Up Sale concept to Europe and Show Championships prior to the Spring and August Sales. Harry also worked in tandem with the late Jack White to persuade Irish vendors to sell at DBS and this helped to produce countless top class graduates of the sales under both codes and raise the profile of the company over many years.

Harry rode the winner of a Bumper at Worcester when assisting his father and has since remained close to the action by owning shares in racehorses and broodmares. Harry is also a member of the Turf Club and the Twelve Club while he was a director of Robert J Goff & co plc from 2007 to 2017 which is the parent company of Goffs UK. He was also a trustee of the Stable Lads Welfare Trust for 15 years. Harry enjoys watching top class tennis and all sports.
