Colin Bowe Awarded The Willie Stephenson Memorial Trophy

The Willie Stephenson Memorial Trophy commemorates the co-founder of DBS, now Goffs UK, and is awarded annually to the person or persons whom the Goffs UK Board feel have made the biggest contribution to the success of the company during that year.

The unanimous choice for 2019 was Colin Bowe.

Training from his Wexford based Milestone Stables, Bowe’s graduates have become a regular feature at Goffs UK’s Doncaster and Aintree Sales – particularly the latter where they have topped three of the four sales held at the venue thus far with Samcro, Madison to Monroe and Papa Tango Charly who sold for a record £440,000 last year.

The award is normally presented in Doncaster earlier in the year but due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions, it was presented to Colin in his yard today by Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby in his role as the second successor to Willie Stephenson as Goffs UK Chairman, who commented:

“Colin has had a lasting impact on our sales with his point-to-pointers regularly featuring at the top of the market – a testament to his ability to consistently produce horses of the highest calibre. He has played a big part in the ongoing success of our Aintree Sale having produced most of the sale toppers including Samcro who topped the inaugural 2016 sale and went on to become a headline horse, winning the Gr.1 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2018 and the Gr.1 Marsh Novices' Chase at the Festival earlier this year.”

“We are delighted to add Colin’s name to the list of very worthy and diverse recipients of this award and look forward to selling more of his Milestone Stables’ graduates for many years to come.”
