Harry Angel Heads Premier Sale 1-2 in Gr.1 Sprint Cup

Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale graduate Harry Angel claimed his second Group 1 in succession on Saturday, producing a scintillating performance to destroy his rivals in the Group 1 32Red Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock Park.

Coming off a brilliant win in the Group 1 July Cup on his last start, the Clive Cox trained son of Dark Angel was the favourite going into the feature race of the meeting and the 3YO didn’t disappoint, leading the field on the stand side before effortlessly kicking clear in the final stages to win by four-lengths in an emphatic performance. Fellow Goffs UK graduate, the Shadwell Stud raced Tasleet, finished second giving the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale a 1-2 in the Group 1.

The elated Clive Cox, who had his concerns regarding the heavy ground going into the race, was full of praise for Harry Angel commenting “he's so potent. He's awesome. It's hard to change gear on ground like that but he's just lengthened away from them and to beat them by four lengths is wonderful.” Jockey Adam Kirby was equally impressed saying “I knew he’d won as soon as he picked up. He’s a machine. He’s got speed to burn and that’s not how good he is, he’s there now mentally and he’ll keep on getting better.”

The Godolphin raced colt will now attempt to add the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot on 21 October to his July Cup and Sprint Stakes wins. Harry Angel was purchased by Clive Cox from the draft of Ballyphilip Stud at the 2015 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster for just £44,000. He has now won over £630,000 in stakes earnings. View his pedigree here.
