Sister to NH Star headlines 2022 Doncaster January Sale

A large draft of classy NH foals of 2021 featuring a half-sister to the star hurdler Constitution Hill will headline the 2022 Goffs UK January Sale at Doncaster which will be offered alongside NH mares, horses-in-training and pointers at the UK’s first sale of 2022 on 25 – 26 January.

The 2022 Doncaster January Sale will offer one of its largest NH foal sessions in recent years with 154 entries catalogued and they will once again open the sale from 11am on Tuesday 25 January. A session of 53 NH mares will immediately follow the 2021 foals while day-two of the sale, Wednesday 26 January from 10am, will offer horses-in-training and pointers.

The NH foal session will offer well-bred youngsters by some of the leading NH sires and features a high number of entries out of quality race mares. Some of the highlights of the session are listed below and include a sibling to Saturday’s impressive Grade 1 Tolworth Novices' Hurdle winner Constitution Hill who was sold at the Doncaster Spring Sale.

  • Lot 5, a Scalo half-sister to the Gr.2 winner SAXO SOL.
  • 20, a Mukhadram colt out of the Gr.2 winner INTENSE TANGO.
  • 36, a Blue Bresil colt out of the Gr.2 winner MARIA'S BENEFIT.
  • 57, a Dartmouth filly out of the L. winner and Gr.1 placed PEPITE ROSE.
  • 64, a Jack Hobbs half-sister to Saturday’s Gr.1 winner CONSTITUTION HILL.
  • 77, a Telescope half-brother to the Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 placed SONGE.
  • 89, a Sea The Moon filly out of the L. winner and Gr.2 placed THE PIRATE'S QUEEN.
  • 96, a Doyen filly out of the Gr.1 and dual Gr.2 winner UNITED.
  • 109, a Telescope colt out of the Gr.2 winner ALASI.
  • 123, a Gentlewave filly out of the L. winning mare BLUE BUTTONS.
  • 134, a Diamond Boy colt out of the multiple L. winner and Gr.2 placed CAP SOLEIL.
  • 149, a Walk In The Park filly out of a daughter of the Gr.1 winner SPIRIT LEADER and half-sister to the Gr.1 winner PRINCE OF SCARS.

The NH mare session has produced some outstanding graduates such as Stormy Ireland who sold in last year’s sale and went on to win the Gr.1 Irish Mares Champion Hurdle. This year will offer 53 entries and feature the likes of the Listed winner FANTASTIC MS FOX (Lot 172), the Listed placed Hitherjacques Lady (Lot 186) who is eligible for the TBA Elite NH Mares’ Scheme, three mares covered by Blue Bresil as well as sires Arrigo, Ask, Flag Of Honour, Frammassone, Gentlewave, Getaway, Jack Hobbs, Kamsin, Passing Glance, Pether's Moon, Sogann and Telescope.

Day-two of the sale will offer horses-in-training and the dedicated P2P/Form Horse Session – a session which has also produced some outstanding graduates such as last year’s Cheltenham Festival Gr.1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle winner Vanillier. Entries currently feature UK and Irish winning pointers Camilla's Choice (Lot 264), The Tablet (Lot 265), Goodoldbill (Lot 267), Criquette (Lot 269) etc. and additional entries will be published in the build-up to the sale.

The horses-in-training session will feature entries from trainers including Alan King, Anthony Honeyball, Brian Meehan, Dan Skelton, David O'Meara, Donald McCain, Evan Williams, Gordon Elliott, Iain Jardine, Jonjo O'Neill, Joseph O'Brien, Keith Dalgleish, Michael Easterby, Micky Hammond, Nicky Henderson, Tom Ellis, Tom George, Willie Mullins etc.

Another USP of Doncaster in January is the now regular TBA NH Stallion Showcase which will see 18 sires on parade in Yard B on Tuesday 25 January. Those in attendance will be Arrigo, Bangkok, Dartmouth, Dink, Diplomat, Dragon Dancer, Flag Of Honour, Frammassone, Frontiersman, Gentlewave, Jack Hobbs, Leading Light, Logician, Masterstroke, Pether's Moon, Planteur, Telescope and Walzertakt, and their presence provides NH breeders with a unique opportunity to view the cream of the British NH stallion crop side by side.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented on the catalogue:

“This sale’s NH foal session continues to grow and it’s fantastic to see it offer its largest number in recent years so we extend our thanks to the vendors who have continued to up their support. The session keeps developing in terms of quality and features progeny from a high number of mares who achieved black type on the track – an indication of the quality of the catalogue assembled.

“Racing over the last 12 months has seen two Grade 1 winners emerge from this sale, Stormy Ireland who won the Irish Mares Champion Hurdle and Vanillier who was victorious in the Cheltenham Festival’s Gr.1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle. Vanillier was offered as part of the P2P/Form Horse Session and is a great advert for the quality the session produces.

“The sale will also once again host the annual TBA NH Stallion Showcase which will see some of the UK’s leading NH sires on parade on the opening day of the sale – Tuesday 25 January. All horses will be available to view in Yard B and the sires in attendance can be found in the front of the sale catalogue.”
