Record Prices & Figures Head Successful January Sale

Off the back of the strongest NH Foal catalogue offered in recent years and swarms of Irish buyers making their way to Doncaster today’s Foal average grew 30% to a record £11,665 with a top price of £66,000 – a record price for a NH Foal at this sale. Further, from just an additional 12 Foals offered today than in 2015, the aggregate for the session grew 46% to £1,061,500.

Topping the Foal Session was Mill House Stud’s Kayf Tara colt (Lot 178) out of the Stakes winning mare Harringay who sold to Aiden Murphy for £66,000. Kayf Tara sired the top four priced foals which also included Little Lodge Farm’s colt (196), who was crowned Champion at the 2016 TBA NH Foal Show and Bangor-On-Dee, which sold to Dick Frisby for £62,000.

The Sale concluded with the NH Mare session which, like yesterday’s Horses-in-Training/Point-to-Point Session, also saw six figures reached with Hurst Farm’s Stakes winning Gold Well mare Legacy Gold (308 - pictured) selling to Eamonn Phelan for £100,000 – the highest price of the day and equal top price for the two-day sale.

Goffs UK Chairman Henry Beeby and Managing Director Tony Williams commented on the sale:

“The last two days have been an excellent start to 2017 with growth in every area of the Doncaster January Sale.

“Our Day 1 Horses-In-Training returned a vibrant sale from start to finish with massive rises in every statistic to demonstrate, yet again, that Doncaster is the measure of any venue for the category.

“Today’s NH Foals also enjoyed a strong trade especially for those stand-out lots with the looks and pedigree to most recommend them. Doncaster has always been a rich source of top class NH potential and we are confident that several of today’s foals will make their mark in future sales and then on the racecourse.

“As ever we are indebted to every client, whether selling or buying, and it was most gratifying to see the latter category today dominated by shoals of Irish traders who had made the trip to Doncaster to take advantage of one of the strongest NH foal catalogues we have produced for some time.”
