Quality Doncaster January Sale Catalogue Now Online

A bumper catalogue of 292 lots have been catalogued for the 2023 Goffs UK January Sale at Doncaster (24 – 25 January) which will feature over 190 NH foals, some outstanding NH breeding stock, and horses-in-training.

The opening day of the Doncaster January Sale on Tuesday 24 January will offer the NH foals and breeding stock while the second day on Wednesday 25 January will be dedicated to horses-in-training. The sale has been very well supported by breeders once again and this year it will offer the largest line-up of foals in its history. With many of the leading NH sires featuring in the catalogue, some of the highlight entries include: 

  • Lot 18, a Walk In The Park filly out of an own sister to the Gr.1 winner LALOR.
  • 25, a Walk In The Park half-brother to the Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 placed NUBE NEGRA.
  • 27, a Golden Horn colt out of a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner A WAVE OF THE SEA.
  • 48, a Soldier Of Fortune colt out of the Gr.2 placed Presenting mare Perfect Promise who is a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner ANOTHER PROMISE.
  • 51, a Nathaniel colt out of the multiple Gr.2 placed Presenting mare Petticoat Tails.
  • 65, a Nathaniel filly out of a half-sister to the multiple Gr.1 winner HONEYSUCKLE.
  • 69, a Frontiersman half-sister to the multiple Gr.1 winner THYME HILL.
  • 106, a Sea The Moon filly out of the Gr.1 winner TIDARA ANGEL who is a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner TIDAL FURY.
  • 108, a Kingfisher filly out of an own sister to the Gr.1 winner BRAVEMANSGAME.
  • 113, a Postponed half-brother to the Gr.3 winner MIDNIGHT RIVER.
  • 150, a Jack Hobbs colt out of the Gr.2 winner COLIN’S SISTER.
  • 161, an Arrigo half-brother to the Gr.2 winner INTHEPOCKET.
  • 168, a Buck’s Boum colt out of an own sister to the Gr.1 winner WHISPER.

Tuesday’s opening session will also offer 35 NH mares which feature some outstanding opportunities for breeders with a number of black-type entries to be offered including THE GLANCING QUEEN (Lot 210), the winner of the Gr.2 Goffs Nickel Coin Mares’ Bumper who was also Gr.1 placed over hurdles and a twice Listed winner over fences, CAP SOLEIL (Lot 221), a dual Listed winner in bumpers and a Listed winner and Gr.2 placed over hurdles who has been covered by Crystal Ocean, and THE PIRATE’S QUEEN (Lot 227), who was a Listed winner and Gr.2 placed over hurdles and is an own sister to the Gr.2 winner The Dutchman.

NH mare entries also feature the Gr.3 winner HER INDOORS (Lot 216), Listed winners FIVEANDTWENTY (Lot 213) and SEA SESSIONS (Lot 219) along with mares covered by Gentlewave, Jack Hobbs, Leading Light, Logician, Masterstroke, Nathaniel, Planteur and Schiaparelli.

The sale will also feature a new Bonus Section which features a £100,000 bonus which will pay out to the first eligable horse sold during that section that wins any race at the 2023 or 2024 Cheltenham Festival. The four eligable horses will be offered on day 2 of the sale on Wednesday 25 Janaury and are Fashionelle (Lot 293), The Cox Express (Lot 294), Rockstown Native (Lot 295) and Taita Hills (Lot 296).

“This shapes as a strong January Sale catalogue and its great to be able to assemble a line-up of this quality to start 2023. The 193 NH foals represents the largest number of foals this sale has ever offered which is a great advert for it and there are some lovely types in there. The breeding stock session also looks strong with some very good mares, many of which are eligible for the TBA Elite NH Mares’ Scheme, and they represent some wonderful opportunities for breeders.

“The opening day of the sale on Tuesday 24 January will also feature the TBA’s NH Stallion showcase which will see 18 UK based NH sires stabled in Yard A and available for inspection so there is plenty of attraction for breeders and pinhookers alike and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Doncaster to open the 2023 sale calendar.”
