Lot 9 - Ahoy Senor (IRE

Purchaser: Lucinda Russell.
Price: £50,000

This impressive-looking gelding put up a remarkable performance when setting a pulverising gallop in a competitive four- and five-year-old maiden race at Kimble in Buckinghamshire on the final day of October. Too big and raw to run as a four-year-old, and an early unseater when making his point-to-point debut in March, he made no mistake at the second time of asking. He scored by 30 lengths and a short-head – runner-up Salute The King had shown promise in Irish point-to-points before joining a smart stable in Britain for this season. Winning rider Alex Edwards described Ahoy Senor as a “very straightforward horse”, and while the partnership coasted up the run-in well clear of rivals their winning time was only three seconds slower than the card’s men’s open race, which was run at a strong gallop and landed by a five-time winner in France who had earned more than €200,000 in prize money. Ahoy Senor was foaled by a mare who won a point-to-point on debut in Ireland, but subsequently suffered a knee injury and could not build on that success. He is a half-brother to a winning pointer/hurdler.
