P2P.ie Review: Ballystone is a well-bred son of Shirocco being out of a multiple track winning King’s Theatre mare that has already produced the four-time Grade 2 winner Wholestone. The €30,000 that connections paid to secure him as a foal look to have been well spent on the evidence of his debut where he was only denied an open success in a Broughshane four-year-old maiden that has been won by subsequent 140-rated chasers Born Survivor, Calino D’Airy, and Fakir D’Alene in recent years. It was hotly contested this year with upwards of ten horses holding definite chances jumping the third-last fence ensuring finishing speed was a definite plus. He caught the eye travelling powerfully into the race by coming through to lead approaching the last. He put down at this obstacle which cruelly looks to have cost him victory as he was headed on the short run-in to be denied by a head. He would have to be expected to easily make amends next time.
